Starting in 1973, a red accident protection stripe was added to the front of the still under construction series models E444, which was gradually extended to already built machines. From 1975, the bogies were painted black, and in 1982, the removal of the aluminum strips began, which had led to corrosion of the car body, resulting in the final appearance of the E444 with original cabins.
