In 1916, the Bernina Railway put into service a heavy six-axle
freight locomotive Ge 6/6 81. The lone wolf, with its
characteristic magnetic track brake on a running gear between the
driven bogies, was converted from six-axle to four-axle bogies with
a blind axle by SLM, Winterthur in 1928/29. After its
decommissioning in 1965, it found a new home at the Swiss Museum
Railway Blonay-Chamby and has since become operational again. It
had a guest appearance in 2021/22 in its original home at
Bernina.
Metal model of the distinctive freight locomotive in its last
operational condition on RhB tracks of the Bernina line after its
renumbering to Ge 4/4 181 in 1961.
