MGB HGe 4/4 II 105 Rack Locomotive "Glacier Express" New Release 2026
MGB has awarded the contract for the renewal of nine of its originally 13 rack locomotives HGe 4/4 II built between 1986-1990 to SBB following a tender. The HGe 4/4 II 106 served as the prototype. It was completely stripped down and the reusable parts were overhauled. The so-called refit includes the replacement of the main components. Visibly, in addition to the slightly altered design and the LED headlights, the modern air conditioning unit between the bogies is particularly noticeable. After the completion of the work in 2021 and a successful performance test, two locomotives were added to the refit program at a time. This includes, in addition to the eight locomotives 101-108 procured by FO, the HGe 4/4 1 of BVZ as the ninth locomotive.

Locomotive 105 is the only machine to receive advertising lettering for the "Glacier Express".
