The commissioning of the standard cars EW III in 1983 gave the "Bernina Express" its definitive breakthrough: not only in terms of comfort but also due to the visually highlighted color scheme of the complete red/dark brown train unit.
In 1992/93, eleven more express train cars of the EW IV series arrived on the Graubünden meter-gauge network: A 1273-1275, B 2491-2497, and BD 2475.
In 1995, thanks to the second train composition, the "Heidiland Bernina Express" was included in the program, running from Landquart via Davos and Filisur to Tirano.
The composition usually consisted of seven cars during the summer season.
