For 55 years, the InterCity has connected people, regions, and generations. With its distinctive comfort, striking locomotives, and high-quality travel experience, it has played a pivotal role in shaping the history of long-distance rail travel in Germany. Many innovations now taken for granted on the ICE were originally introduced with the InterCity, setting new standards for rail travel in Germany.
Autumn 2026 marks the end of a significant chapter in railway history. We wish to look back on 55 years of InterCity, celebrate special moments, and bid farewell to the InterCity 1, the Class 101, and the Class 218 in long-distance service. To mark the occasion, the InterCity 1 will embark on a farewell tour starting September 25, 2026.
ROCO and FLEISCHMANN, together with Deutsche Bahn AG, are launching a specially designed carriage that will take part in all the farewell runs.
