Over 1,100 Class 52 locomotives were built at the locomotive
factory in Vienna-Floridsdorf. After the war, 113 locomotives
remained in Austria. Many were upgraded; for example, some well
tank tenders were fitted with cabs, providing a driver’s
compartment. The last units were withdrawn from service in 1976 and
thus belonged to the final steam locomotives in operation on the
standard-gauge network of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB).
