From 1928 to 1943, almost all German locomotive factories delivered a total of 775 locomotives of this class to the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft. The 1000 hp locomotives were designed for a speed of 70-80 km/h, which meant they could also be used on main and feeder lines, in addition to their primary area of application, the "branch lines".
