The steam locomotive 64 415 belongs to the legendary German Class
64 series, which was specifically designed for branch lines. The
tank locomotive was built in 1936 by the Arnold Jung
Lokomotivfabrik in Kirchen (Sieg). With its 1’C1’ wheel arrangement
and a top speed of 90 km/h, it was ideally suited to both passenger
and light freight trains. After being taken out of service in 1974,
the locomotive was initially preserved and, in 1976, acquired by
the Dutch heritage railway Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij.
Following a general overhaul, it was restored to operational
condition in 1979 and has since been one of the key vehicles in the
Beekbergen collection.
