The E 10 class, designated the Class 110 from 1968 onwards, was
developed as part of the Deutsche Bundesbahn's standardised
locomotive programme. The use of numerous components shared with
the E 40, E 41 and E 50 classes was intended to simplify
procurement and maintenance. With a power output of around 3,700 kW
and a top speed of 150 km/h, these locomotives were ideally suited
to high-quality passenger services.
The 110 140 represents the classic version, with the characteristic
angular locomotive body of the early production series. For many
years, these robust electric locomotives were employed to haul
D-class, express and, later, local trains. With its reliable
technology, the Class 110 shaped electric passenger services on the
Deutsche Bundesbahn for decades and became one of the best-known
locomotive types of the post-war era.
