In the early 1990s, the DB began developing control cab coaches for
long-distance services. The first 75 control cab coaches were
converted from passenger coaches built in Halberstadt. After the
first two series were delivered, PFA Weiden began manufacturing
twelve pressure-tight IC control cab coaches. To distinguish them
from the "conventional" version, these coaches are designated
Bpmbdzf 297.3.
