Diesel locomotive T 669 0503 of a Czechoslovak industrial
railway.
■ Designed as a Czechoslovak industrial locomotive
■ Free-standing grab rails, some made of metal
■ Ideal for use in front of freight trains
The T 669 diesel locomotive class, later designated the 770 class,
owes its nickname partly to the Russian series designation ЧМЭ3
("Chme3"), which sounds similar to the Czech word for bumblebee,
"Čmelák", and partly to the humming sound it makes when starting
up, which also resembles a bumblebee’s buzz – at least from a
distance. With its 1,400 PS, it proved its worth in both light and
heavy shunting.
