The 294 597-0 diesel locomotive belongs to the tried-and-tested V
90 family of Deutsche Bahn locomotives. Originally developed for
heavy shunting and transfer duties, these locomotives were procured
by the Deutsche Bundesbahn from the 1960s onwards. The subsequent
fitting of numerous locomotives with radio remote control and other
shunting equipment gave rise, amongst others, to the 294, 295 and
296 classes.
At DB AG, the locomotives were given their characteristic
traffic-red livery. Even after several decades, locomotives from
the V 90 family continue to be used for shunting and freight
services, making them some of the longest-serving German diesel
locomotive classes.
