The electric locomotive 143 909-0 belongs to the Class 143,
originally developed as the DR Class 243 for the Deutsche
Reichsbahn of the GDR. It was built in the 1980s at LEW “Hans
Beimler” in Hennigsdorf and designed for passenger transport.
After entering service with the Deutsche Reichsbahn, the locomotive
was primarily used on regional and suburban services. Following
German reunification and the 1994 merger of the Deutsche Bundesbahn
and the Deutsche Reichsbahn to form Deutsche Bahn AG, it was
assigned the new class designation 143 and integrated into the
unified German rolling stock fleet.
