The 218 308 belongs to the third production series of the Class
218. It was built by the company Krupp in Essen and accepted and
registered on 12 September 1974 at the Bundesbahn repair depot in
Bremen. Its first assigned depot was Regensburg, where it was based
until 23 September 1983. From 24 September 1983 to 4 November 2000,
it was based at the Mühldorf depot, a period the model also
depicts.
A distinctive feature of the 218 308 was that it remained in
service for a very long time in the purple-red livery (RAL 3004),
even during the DB AG era after 1994, until December 1998. It also
features a Voith ventilation system with its characteristic sound.
Another notable feature was that, until 1994, the old Bundesbahn
logo (without a border) was still displayed on the front of cab No.
2, and only disappeared with the introduction of the new red DB AG
logos in 1994.
