Some of the Class 50 locomotives were also manufactured in the
occupied territories during the Second World War. The Škoda works
in Pilsen played an important role in this, producing both standard
Class 50 locomotives and locomotives in the ÜK version for the
Deutsche Reichsbahn. After the end of the war, numerous German
locomotives remained in the territory of the re-established
Czechoslovakia. Twenty-eight locomotives were transferred to the
ČSD fleet and classified as Class 555.1, with running numbers
555.101 to 555.128. These included locomotives built in Pilsen as
well as several locomotives of the transitional wartime design.
