In the 1950s, Waggonbau Bautzen built a short luggage wagon for
goods trains on behalf of the DR. More than 200 wagons were
procured in two series. As a special feature, the wagons had
built-in rear signals whose red and white surfaces could be covered
with rotating light screens. From 1964, these coaches were also
used on branch lines for passenger trains. They had inscriptions
according to the passenger coach scheme with the designation D.
From 1977 onwards, the coaches that were exclusively used for this
purpose were renamed "Daa".
