A total of 11 Fe 4/4 units were equipped with an electric brake in
1930/31 and again in 1938 for operation on the Seetalbahn and the
steep Vallorbe–Le Pont line. As part of a decision to modernise
this sub-series, the Yverdon workshop rebuilt unit De 4/4 1669 in
1965/66. At the time, it was intended to serve as a prototype, was

a driver's cab adapted for seated operation, new pneumatic
equipment, a compressed-air main switch, a new contactor bank, and
a closed driver's cab. The only feature that retained its
traditional appearance was the classic dark green livery with a
light grey underframe.
