■ Labeled as a multi-voltage car
The express train Nordpfeil – or in Danish Nordpilen – was for
decades the classic express connection between Hamburg and northern
Jutland until 1991. It also traversed the famous Rendsburg High
Bridge over the Nord-East Sea Canal. Four years after the
introduction of the IR line Kassel - Flensburg, the Nordpfeil
experienced its rebirth as an Interregio: It operated from Hannover
via Hamburg, Flensburg, Fredericia, Aarhus (the second largest city
in Denmark) to Frederikshavn.
This international IR train is accurately modeled with
multi-voltage cars and the corresponding train route signs. In
Denmark, the train consisted of 5 cars (Art. No. 6200289 and
6200290), and three additional cars were added until Flensburg
(Art. No. 6200288).
The IR Nordpfeil/Nordpilen was pulled north of Flensburg by the DSB
series MZ. Up to that point, the train was hauled by the DB series
218 in double traction, after the electric locomotive had been
uncoupled in Hamburg-Altona. With the ongoing electrification, this
change of traction type could initially be moved to Neumünster from
winter 1995, and from summer 1996 directly to the Danish border
station Padborg.
