Steam locomotive class 50.50 of the railway company of the German
Democratic Republic (Deutsche Reichsbahn).
- Blind wheels with spokes
More than 70 locomotives of the series 50.35 of the DR were
converted to oil main firing to increase the power output. This
significantly facilitated the driver's operating conditions. During
the conversion process the locomotives received the new designation
series 50.50, also to make it easier to differentiate internally
between the locomotives with coal firing and oil firing. Since the
prices for the crude oil massively increased in all Eastern bloc
countries, the locomotives were all of a sudden decommissioned in
1981. This was the end of the bullish looking locomotives.
