Everybody knows them, the typical Austrian milk trains that roll
across the scenic landscape of the Ennstal valley. The trains
composed of innumerable refrigerator cars, were mostly hauled by
electric locomotives of the series 1245 and enjoyed it a lot to hum
through the Austrian Alpine countryside. The small regional farmers
delivered the milk in cans, which was then filled into the
refrigerator cars at the intermediate stations. When the train
arrived in Stainach-Irdning, people quickly started with the
unloading of the refrigerator cars, since the milk was finally
needed for the production.
