After testing the pre-series units, the V 100.10 class was procured
in series in 1961/62. It was used in mixed traffic on
non-electrified branch lines and for light duties on main lines.
With an output of 1,100 hp (810 kW), it was approved for speeds of
up to 110 km/h. In 1968, the locomotives were redesignated as Class
211. Following the classic red livery, many units received the
ocean blue/beige colour scheme from 1974/75 onwards. Units 211 008
to 063 were equipped with push-pull train control.
