Passenger coach “Rekowagen” type Bage of the railway company of the
German Democratic Republic (Deutsche Reichsbahn).
- Version with four side doors
- 3-axle chassis
With a total of 12 coaches, the Reko coaches of the pilot
production was the smallest part of the Deutsche Reichsbahn's Reko
program. The coaches were manufactured in 1958 and tested for about
a year before they went into series production. On the outside, the
Reko coaches of the pilot production differed from the coaches of
the series production only by four side doors that had a smaller
design. Tests were carried out when passengers boarded and
disembarked from the trains. The tests showed that Reko coaches
with diagonally arranged doors were the best concept. The toilet
was moved to the vestibule. Thanks to this design modification, it
was possible to create space for four more seats. The side windows
of the serial Reko coaches had a larger design and the compartments
were enlarged as well. Despite their special position in the
vehicle fleet, the coaches, like their successor models, were used
for a long time and could be found in various types of train
compositions.
