The TRAXX AC1 is a series of electric locomotives primarily
designed for transporting goods. The designation TRAXX stands for
"Transnational Railway Applications with eXtreme fleXibility". The
185.1 series is derived from the 145 series, but it now features a
modified design and a new series designation. It is designed to
operate on both the 15 kV/16 2/3 Hz and 25 kV/50 Hz AC voltage
systems commonly used in Europe. With a weight of 84 tonnes, it has
a continuous output of 5.6 MW and is approved for speeds of up to
140 km/h. The locomotives were equipped with various
country-specific packages for cross-border operations. 65
locomotives (185 085 - 185 149) were delivered with the Swiss
country package. From May 2007, 185 142 was in service in the
eye-catching "Edelweiss" design.
