In 1927, the Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) procured a total of 40
engines from the locomotive factory “Società Ernesto Breda“ with
rod drive. The 94-tonne, 13,910 mm-long machines with the axle
formula 1'D1' were operated with three-phase current and had a
continuous output of 2,200 kW.
On the Brenner line, the E.432 could often be seen hauling
international express trains in the 1950s. The Italian State
Railways used the E.432 class until 1976.
