The six-part multiple unit Rh 4010 was in operation with the ÖBB
from 1964 to 2008 and was used for long-distance and city express
connections. A total of 29 trainsets were delivered to the ÖBB in
five series. For a long time, the city express trains formed the
backbone of modern long-distance traffic in Austria. During the
long service period of these aesthetically pleasing trains, the
sets underwent various modifications and modernizations. Inspired
by the color scheme of the international passenger cars of the ÖBB,
they were repainted in traffic red, umbra gray, and gray-white in
the 1990s.
