Brake van "Sputnik", type Db, of the Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon
Bahn.
■ Model without lighting
The "Sputnik" is one of the smallest, but also the most famous
coaches of Switzerland. From 1966 to 1969, the main workshop in
Chur built 120 coaches of this type, which also had a lounge and
observation post for the train crew. Later the coaches were
officially designated Db. For more than 25 years, the "Sputnik"
caboose was the highlight at the end of every "true" Swiss goods
train. The caboose's side pulpits were crucial on the steep
mountain ramps of the Gotthard and Lötschberg because they provided
an optimal view of the goods train running in front, so any
technical problem or apparent inconsistency could easily be
discovered.
