2-car diesel multiple unit ALn 668 series 1000 in XMPR livery, flat
front windows
When constructing the ALn 668 in the late 1970s, experiments were
conducted to manufacture the side walls of the body entirely from
stainless steel instead of normal painted steel, in order to
drastically reduce the maintenance effort for the body concerning
oxidation and corrosion due to regular operation.
Unit 1207 was therefore delivered in September 1979 with unpainted
stainless steel sides, with only the driver's cabs being painted in
the canonical livery, giving the vehicle a very distinctive
appearance that it maintained until the XMPR coating in the 2000s.
