1970

After successfully testing the Re 4/4III 41 locomotive of the Swiss Southeastern Railway (SOB) on the Gotthard line, the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS) decide to order 20x units configured for higher traction and lower speed, registered Re 4/4III 11351 - 11370.

1983

Between 1983 and 1985, the first 3x units of the series are sold to Swiss Southeastern Railway (SOB) where they are registered as:
- unit 11351 receives registration Re 4/4III 44;
- unit 11352 receives registration Re 4/4III 42;
- unit 11353 receives registration Re 4/4III 43;

1994

Between 1994 and 1996, units Re 4/4III 41 - 44 are acquired from the Swiss Southeastern Railway (SOB) in exchange of the 4x units from the Re 4/4IV series.

After transfer, units Re 4/4III 42 - 44 retrieve their initial registrations Re 4/4III 11351 - 11353 while unit Re 4/4III 41 receives registration Re 4/4III 11350.
