The first 20x units from this series, registered as B 21-73 400 - 419, are acquired in 1985 and 1991.

As the units are upgraded for push-pull operations, they receive new designation B 21-75.

3x additional units, B 21-73 420 - 422, are acquired in 1999 from the Bodensee-Toggenburg Railway where they were registered as B 21-73 304 - 306.

All units from this series are sold to the Swiss Federal Railways in exchange of all the Unified Cars Type III in the context of BLS giving up main line connections and taking over all operations of the Bernese RER.

All units from this series are upgraded for a maximum speed of 200 km/h and receive new registration B 21-95 270 - 292.
