1953

As rail trips continue to be very popular among the Swiss public, some degree of luxury was expected from the rolling stock used for these charted services. RBe 2/4 and RCe 2/4 railcars, built before the war, were certainly very robust but not as comfortable as newer material and could accommodate only 60 people. RBe 4/8 651 (Churchill's arrow) could accommodate larger groups and had a buffet area.

Both units from this series are built in 1953 and are classified as RBe 4/8:
- the first unit is delivered on July 4th, 1953, and receives registration number 661;
- the second unit is delivered on August 18th, 1953, and receives registration number 662.

These units are derived from unit RBe 4/8 651 (Churchill's arrow).

After the 3rd class is abolished in 1956, the units are classified as RAe, without any changes to the interior equipment.

1959

These units receive new registration numbers:
- unit 661 receives new registration 1022;
- unit 662 receives new registration 1023.
