Liliput was founded in 1947 in Vienna, Austria, by Walter Bücherl, initially establishing its reputation as a pioneer of high-quality plastic and metal models in the post-war era. The brand became legendary for its focus on Austrian and German prototypes, specifically distinguishing itself with museum-quality "Rheingold" coaches and intricate Epoch II steam locomotives. After a period of financial instability in the late 1980s, the company was acquired in 1992 by Bachmann Industries (part of the Kader Group), which shifted production to China while maintaining a dedicated engineering and design office in Altdorf, Germany. Today, Liliput serves as the continental European arm of Bachmann Europe Plc, continuing a legacy of producing sophisticated models for a global audience.
