About

Sudexpress

Sudexpress was founded in 2008 in Braga, Portugal, as a specialized division of Norbrass, a company already established for its high-end brass miniatures. The brand’s name pays tribute to the historic Sud-Express international train that has connected Paris to Lisbon via Madrid since the late 19th century. While Norbrass remains focused on the elite brass market, Sudexpress was created to bridge the gap between boutique craftsmanship and mass-market accessibility by utilizing advanced 3D CAD design and plastic injection molding. This approach has allowed the company to produce museum-quality models in H0 (1:87) and N (1:160) scales that maintain the "fine-scale" precision and technical rigor typically associated with much more expensive brass productions.

The brand has gained international acclaim for becoming the definitive specialist in Iberian railway history, filling a major void for collectors of Portuguese (CP) and Spanish (RENFE) prototypes. Their technical reputation reached new heights through an official partnership with Stadler Rail, which authorized Sudexpress to produce the highly complex EuroDual and Euro9000 locomotive families. These massive six-axle models are considered technical benchmarks in the industry, featuring thousands of separately applied parts, motorized roof fans, and synchronized "pulsed" smoke. The "Prestige" versions of these models are particularly sought after for their integrated electronics, which include motorized pantographs and multi-speaker sound systems that authentically replicate the transition between diesel and electric power.

In addition to its flagship locomotives, Sudexpress is a pioneer in modern European freight modeling, particularly through its detailed recreations of Innofreight modular systems and specialized timber wagons. The company operates through three distinct product tiers: the Standard line for robust layout operation, the Premium line for advanced digital features, and the Norbrass line, which consists of limited-edition hybrid models that combine plastic and metal for the ultimate in prototypical accuracy. Today, Sudexpress remains a boutique powerhouse based in Portugal, celebrated for its "by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts" philosophy and its ability to capture the complex engineering and aesthetic nuances of modern European rail transport with clinical precision.
