1965

The first 3x EMUs are acquired in 1965 for the Vienna to Zurich route and they are composed initially of 4x units.

1966

The second series of 12x EMUs is acquired in 1966 mainly for the interior Austrian routes and they are composed initially of 5x units.

A third series of 2x EMUs is acquired at the end of the 1960s. Composed of 6x units, these EMUs are purchased mainly for the Vienna-Passau-Frankfurt, Vienna-Bregenz-St.Gallen and Vienna-Munich routes.

1970s

Two other series of 12x EMUs composed of 6x units are acquired in the 1970s.

1990s

The units are modernised in the 1990s and they receive a new red and gray paint scheme.
