The Swiss provider of combined transport Hupac Intermodal Ltd orders 8x Vectron freight locomotives from Siemens in June 2017. Built at the Siemens plant in Munich-Allach, the first units are delivered beginning early summer 2018.

These locomotives have an output of 6.4 MW and a top speed of 160 km/h. Intended for use on the Rhine-Alps corridor, the locomotives are configured for the railway systems in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and the Netherlands. Each locomotive is equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS), in addition to national train control systems.

Initially, 4x locomotives are intended for SBB Cargo International - SBBCI and 4x locomotives for BLS Cargo - BLSC.

After some initial testing and despite unit 193 492 receiving a SBB Cargo International design ( ), these units never entered regular service for the company and are rented to other European railway companies.

Units 193 494 - 497 enter regular service for BLS Cargo - BLSC (see BLS Cargo Class 193 Vectron MS for more details).  

Units 193 490 & 491 are briefly rented by BLS Cargo (see BLS Class 193 Vectron MS for more details).  

Beginning 2019, units 193 490 & 491 are briefly rented by GTS Rail (see GTS Class 193 Vectron MS for more details) while unit 193 492 is briefly rented by BahnTouristikExpress - BTE (see BTE Class 193 Vectron MS for more details).

By the end of 2019, units 193 490, 492 & 493 are rented by Widmer Rail Services - WRS (see WRS Class 193 Vectron MS for more details).
