The 2x locomotives are built in 1875 for the Bernese Jura (JB) railway line (named later on the Jura-Bern-Lucerne (JBL) railway line) and are registered as F3 201 - 202.

After the Jura-Bern-Lucerne (JBL) railway line merged with the Western Switzerland–Simplon Railways (SOS) to form the Jura-Simplon Railways (JS), the 2x locomotives are registered as F3 851 - 852 in the new entity.

The 2x units of the series are taken over by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) after the nationalisation of the Jura-Simplon Railways (JS) in 1903 and are registered as E 3/3 8571 - 8572.
