Following the delivery of the Am 19-70 "Eurofima" coaches in 1977, the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS) order 30x 2nd class passenger coaches designed and built by the Swiss wagon factories of the UIC-Z1 type.

Intended for international use within Europe, these coaches are RIC compliant and have a maximum speed of 160 km/h upon delivery but are prepared to be upgraded for 200 km/h.
