1999

The 26x units from this series are derived from the last series of Re 4/4II locomotives modified for use on German and Austrian railways. These locomotives received the Indusi cab signalling system and a wider pantograph wiper in accordance with German and Austrian regulations.

The maximum allowed speed outside Switzerland was of 120 km/h (increasing the maximum speed to 140 km/h required a disproportionately expensive upgrade, especially since 120 km/h for freight trains was considered sufficient).

The locomotives are mostly used for freight trains but are also leased to pull passenger trains on the EuroCity service to and from Germany and Austria.

2011

Unit Re 421 383-1 is rented by RailAdventure (RADVE) between 2011 and 2013.

Despite the fact the locomotives receives the RailAdventure (RADVE) livery and logo, SBB Cargo (SBBC) remains the owner of the locomotive and thus the registration doesn't change: 91 85 4421 383-1 CH-SBBC.
