The wagon is designed for the transport of bulk grains, goods, and animals that need protection from weather conditions. Each side wall features four ventilators equipped with grilles or metal shutters and a sliding door. The ventilators are also covered by pressed sheet metal caps, which can be operated from the outside. The wagon includes movable gates for transporting bulk grains.

The automatic braking system is of the HiK-Pl type, with a freight-passenger switch, a 10’’ cylinder for constructions until 1963, and a 12’’ cylinder for constructions after 1963, as well as KE brakes.

The chassis and the framework of the metal box are made using a welded construction of rolled profiles, flat bars, and OL38 sheet metal. The front and side walls are made of wooden planks or Tegotex. The roof is made of sheet metal lined with wooden planks or PFL (Pressed Fiberboard).

The chassis is built with U24 side stringers, U30 intermediate stringers, crossbeams, and diagonals, allowing for the installation of automatic couplings. Initially, the roof featured transverse ribs across the width of the wagon.

Series:
158 000 - 159 999: with transverse ribs;
161 000 - 167 999: with longitudinal ribs;

1961

From 1961 onwards, Astra began producing UIC-standard wagons. These had a higher roof with longitudinal ribs and no truss structure.

CFR received over 3,000 of these wagons, which were renumbered in 1965 as Ggs with numbers starting from 148 2000.

Several Gv wagons in the 148 4000 - 148 4999 range matched the export version for MÁV, featuring ventilation grilles in door pockets like their MÁV counterparts.

Later wagons were fitted with sheet metal walls instead of wooden planks and renumbered starting from 148 5000.

In the final versions, door opening stoppers (to secure open doors) were also included.

All Astra deliveries were suitable for grain transport.

UIC-standard wagons with hand brakes featured the characteristic ‘tin can’ brakeman’s cabins.
