105 cars were delivered from 1980. Instead of air conditioning like the Eurofima coaches, these cars were fitted with a Friedmann air heating system so they also received opening windows (the Eurofima coaches had fixed windows).

In the early 2000s some coaches from the series were retired from service and sold. The remaining units were modernised for speeds up to 200 km/h and air conditioning was installed (after modernisation they are very similar to the Bmz 21-90.1 series).

1980

ÖBB coaches type Z1 Bmz 21-70 500 to 594 were manufactured between 1980 and 1982 by SGP Austria. They are designed to operate on the international rail network at speeds of up to 160 km/h. The interior is divided in 11 compartments, 6 seats each.
